Steps
Preamble
The goal of a NAS is to be able to play its multimedia files 24/7 simultaneously
While maintaining a high resolution (c.f.: 1080p), a quality sound quality (c.f.: AC3), all in high compression (c.f.: x265)
Components
- [NAS] Synology brand is very stable, and you have the choice of the number of bays according to your needs
- /!\ Take the + version to benefit from transcoding compatibility!
- [SSDs] To make a read and write cache in RAID 1
- /!\ Check the compatible dimension (c.f.: 2280)!
- [HDDs] To make a special Synology SHR Raid equivalent to Raid 5
- /!\ OS and SHR will leave you around 65% of base volume!
- [Plex Lifetime] To have hardware acceleration (transcodage)
- /!\ Mandatory if you want to decode H264/H265 and be several simultaneously!
- [RAMs] To make the most of the other features
- Example: https://nascompares.com/synology-ds920-nas-20gb-memory-unoffical-upgrade-guide/
- /!\ Even though officially the limit is low, you can normally increase the maximum!
- [Inverters] To protect your equipment and especially your HHDs
- /!\ To calculate VA, take the total Watts used and divide by 0.66!
- [Fans] To make the NAS very quiet and more efficient
- /!\ Do not take the PWM model, the FLX model is the most suitable!
- [Adhesive Gripper Tape] To prevent HDDs from making noise during vibration
- Example: https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/2tc4og/synology_and_vibration_problems_my_velcro_solution/
- /!\ Put small pieces between the frame of the HDD and the latter, as well as in its rail in the NAS
